
Kongu Global Forum has sought an interim plan to increase the airport’s capacity to handle more flights and passengers.

Coimbatore International Airport registered 11% increase in passenger traffic, with a footfall of 17.6 lakh flyers, in the six months from April to September in the current financial year as per data from the Airport Authority of India (AAI).
The airport’s passenger footfall had crossed 30 lakh in 2024 as against the capacity of 20 lakh passengers.
The airport currently has more than 30 departures per day to destinations such as Singapore (1), Abu Dhabi (1-four days per week), Sharjah (1-five days per week), Chennai (8), Hyderabad (5), Mumbai (4), Delhi (4), Bangalore (4), Pune (1), Goa (1) and Ahmedabad (1-four days per week).
Kongu Global Forum (KGF), an association of industrial, business and trade leaders from Tamil Nadu’s western districts, wanted an interim plan to increase the airport’s capacity to handle more flights and passengers. It also wanted airlines to launch flights to Colombo, Bangkok, Dubai and Doha international sector and additional flights to Delhi, Pune, Chennai and Goa.
Airport Director G. Sambath Kumar said that the construction of the compound wall around the land handed over by the State government to AAI is expected to be completed by September 2026. The total length of the proposed wall is about 16 km.
