The Coimbatore Corporation Council approved a reduced entry fee for Semmozhi Poonga, the city’s newly inaugurated park, on Friday. The move follows feedback from the opposition parties and citizen groups, who had raised concerns about the higher charges that were decided earlier.

During the council meeting held on February 7, 2025, the Corporation had passed a resolution fixing entry charges for the park. At that time, the civic body set the fee at ₹25 per adult and ₹10 for children below 10 years. A monthly pass for visitors using the walking tracks was priced at ₹100. Additional charges included ₹25 for cameras, ₹100 for video recording, ₹3,000 per day for short film shoots, and ₹50,000 per day for feature film shoots.

Under the new resolution, the revised charges are ₹15 for adults, ₹5 for children, ₹100 for monthly pass, ₹25 for cameras, ₹50 for video recording, ₹2,000 per day for short film shoots, and ₹25,000 per day for feature film shoots.

The Corporation also issued tenders for operating and maintaining park facilities. The food court, spanning 6,253 sq. ft, has a monthly rent of ₹23.35 lakh. The parking area (17,000 sq. ft) is set at ₹90 lakh per year, while the children’s play area (14,000 sq. ft) carries a yearly rent of ₹33.4 lakh. Spaces in the ticketing complex include 3,433 sq. ft in the first-floor southeast section at ₹41.7 lakh per year, and 4,197 sq. ft in the first-floor southwest section at ₹50.96 lakh per year.

Several tenders did not attract participants, including six co-working spaces of 430 sq. ft each and the ground floor of the ticketing complex and the payment collection tender for the convention centre. The officials said a fresh tender will be issued for these.
