The police arrested three persons who allegedly gang raped a 20-year-old college student near Coimbatore International Airport on the intervening night of November 2 and 3 from Vellakinar near Thudiyalur in the district early on Tuesday (November 4, 2025).

Coimbatore City Police Commissioner A. Saravana Sundar said the police team shot in their legs when they ā€œattempted to escapeā€.

The arrested have been identified as Guna alias Thavasi, Karupasamy alias Satheesh and Kaleeswaran alias Karthik.

They were admitted to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for treatment.

As per initial findings by the police, the accused were engaged in construction works at Irugur, around 4 km away from the deserted vacant lands near the airport, where they gang raped the student after assaulting her boyfriend aged 25.

Further investigation is on.
