Chairperson of the Tamil Nadu State Commission for Women A.S. Kumari, on Tuesday (November 4, 2025), called on the survivor of the gang rape in Coimbatore and her boyfriend who are undergoing medical treatment, and assured them of justice.

Appreciating the police for nabbing the criminals promptly, Ms. Kumari said “justice will surely be delivered”.

The (rape) victim needs medical treatment and psychological counselling, and severe punishment should be given to the culprits for the heinous crime, Ms. Kumari said, adding: “The Chief Minister has ordered filing of a charge sheet within a month.”

Increased awareness created by the Women’s Commission and the Social Welfare Department has reflected in rape victims bravely filing complaints with a hope of a solution.

Excessive discussion about such incidents will only cause severe mental distress and social problems for the victims. Stringent punishment will decrease the crime rate, she said.
