District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Secretary K. Ratna Prasadu called for collective efforts to prevent harassment of women in society. He said that despite educational progress in modern times, incidents of harassment against women continue to occur frequently.
Speaking at an awareness seminar organised as part of International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, here on Tuesday, Mr. Ratna Prasadu said the event was conducted as per the directions of the National Legal Services Authority (New Delhi) and the Andhra Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (Amaravati).
He stressed the need for increased awareness and stricter enforcement of laws to curb harassment. Highlighting the rise in online harassment, he advised women to exercise caution while using mobile phones and avoid responding to calls from unknown numbers or suspicious individuals. He urged women to report doubts or concerns immediately to the nearest cyber police station.
Mr. Ratna Prasadu also reminded that the DLSA provides free legal aid to eligible individuals and that emergency assistance and guidance was available through the 15100 helpline.
Women Development and Child Welfare Project Director A. Sharada, District Child Protection Officer Dr. CH. Surya Chakraveni, Eluru Tahsildar N. Gayathri Devi, Deputy Educational Officer N. Ravindra Bharathi and a large number of women participated in the programme.
