District Collector S. Kandasamy has appealed to the public in Erode district to vaccinate pet dogs and cats once every year. Free rabies vaccination for pets is available at government veterinary hospitals.
A press release from the Collector said vaccination taken at prescribed intervals can provide 100% protection against rabies. The four-dose schedule must be strictly followed ā the first dose on the day of the bite, followed by doses on the 3rd, 7th and 28th days. Failure to take the vaccine on time can result in fatal infection, he warned.
Rabies vaccines are available round the clock at all government hospitals and Primary Health Centres, the release added.
