District Collector Chadalavada Nagarani on Wednesday conducted an inquiry into a maternal mortality and two infant mortalities reported over the past three months in the West Godavari district on Wednesday.

In the last three months, a woman K. Krupa and two infants – a 12-day-old baby girl of Ch. Ratna Kumari and a two-day-old male baby boy of K. Sowmya – died. 

District Medical and Health Officer Dr. B. Geetha Bhai has been directed to ensure that high-risk pregnant women are treated with care to prevent maternal mortalities.

Ms. Nagarani said: “The pregnant women with high-risk symptoms should be told about the precautions they should take.”

District Hospital Services coordinator Dr. P. Suryanarayana, District Immunization Officer Dr. Deva Sudhalakshmi, Bhimavaram Government Hospital Gynaecologist Dr. Madhavi Kalyani and other officials were present.
