In these changing times, as art fades from modern way of life, poets, writers and artists have rendered services to the society by preserving art and cultural heritage for the future generations, said NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha.

Addressing the gathering at the inauguration of the two-day Jaatiya Samskrutika Utsavalu at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram in Vijayawada on Saturday, the Collector lauded the contribution of writers and artists to the society and added that a place that respects an artist will always flourish.

The event is being organised jointly by the Andhra Pradesh State Creativity and Cultural Commission, NTR district administration, and Malletheega Sahitya Seva Samstha. Along with the Collector, Avanigadda MLA Mandali Buddha Prasad, noted psychiatrist Indla Ramasubba Reddy and others took part in the inaugural event.

Expressing gratitude to the Malletheega Sahitya Seva Samstha for conducting competitions to encourage poets, writers, artists, cartoonists and for organising the event, the Collector said the district administration would extend all support to those who want to organise such festivals.

Mr. Buddha Prasad said it is a matter of pride that the festival is being held in a city that has strong cultural roots. Many eminent personalities, distinguished vocalists, classical dancers, writers, poets, and film artistes belong to this region.

He added that the TDP-led NDA government is allocating more funds to the department of culture to encourage artists and writers through cultural programmes. He added that the government is taking steps to promote and preserve the Telugu language.

A.P. State Creativity and Cultural Commission CEO R. Mallikarjuna Rao, Sahitya Academi winners were among those present.
