Commuters have raised concerns over the poor condition of Nallampalayam Road, which connects Tatabad and Nallampalayam, as vehicles increasingly use it as an alternate route due to ongoing flyover construction at Saibaba Colony junction on Mettupalayam Road.
They said uneven surfaces and potholes are slowing down traffic, particularly during peak hours. S. Ramaswamy, a commuter, called for authorities to inspect the stretch and urged for timely completion of the flyover work to ease public movement.
Another commuter, R. Arun Subramanian, said that for the past six months, town buses and other vehicles have been using this road as an alternative to Mettupalayam Road to reach Sivananda Colony, Tatabad, and Nallampalayam. He added that the road has developed potholes, and during rain, the depth of these holes is difficult to gauge. Ongoing digging and partial repairs have left only some sections tarred, making the road hazardous.
An engineering official from the Coimbatore Corporation explained that manholes along the road are around two feet below the surface. “Whenever blockages occur in the underground drainage, we need to dig up the road to access the manholes. We will be reconstructing manholes to match the road surface. Damaged sections have been temporarily filled with wet mix, and potholes will be properly filled and tarred in the coming days,” the official said.
