A complex multi-vessel angioplasty was successfully carried out on a 49-year-old man with long-standing diabetes and recurrent chest pain by a team at Vinayaka Missions Super Speciality Hospital.
A press note said the patient was the latest beneficiary of advanced interventional cardiology treatment where doctors successfully treated severe triple-vessel coronary disease without resorting to open-heart surgery.
The patientâs angiogram revealed critical blockages in all three major coronary arteries, prompting an initial recommendation for bypass surgery. However, after the patient was reluctant to undergo an invasive procedure, Sridhar Balaguru, senior consultant interventional cardiologist, proposed a minimally invasive alternative using high-precision technology, the hospital said.
Dr. Balaguru performed the complex multivessel angioplasty, utilising Fractional Flow Reserve (FFR) to assess the physiological significance of each lesion and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) for detailed imaging to ensure accurate stent placement. âThis case demonstrates that carefully selected patients with multivessel disease can achieve excellent outcomes through contemporary percutaneous techniques,â he said. âUsing FFR and OCT ensures we treat only what is necessary, thereby reducing risk and preserving quality of life.â
