A five-member committee, comprising All India Congress Committee (AICC) in charge for Tamil Nadu and Pudhucherry Girish Chodankar, party leaders Suraj Hegde and Nivedith Alva, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president K. Selvaperunthagai, and Congress legislative party leader S. Rajeshkumar, has been reportedly formed to conduct seat sharing negotiations with the DMK leadership for the 2026 Assembly election.
Congress sources said the official communication would be sent to DMK president and Chief Minister M.K Stalin soon.
A senior TNCC leader said the communication seemed to have been sent after the DMK reportedly urged the AICC leadership to put an end to speculation over the continuation of INDIA bloc in Tamil Nadu. “With the election just a few months away, the DMK had expressed their concern over the fact that the speculation that the Congress could go with the TVK had a destablising effect. And hence, it was deemed necessary to cement the alliance,” a senior leader said.
Sources in the TNCC said all matters related to the alliance — more seats and also about the need for the Congress to be part of a coalition government — would be discussed and settled amicably.
