Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said Monday (December 1, 2025) that his Congress government’s rigorous enforcement of the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act has yielded significant results in combating the state’s drug problem.

“There were many challenges when the Congress government came to power but we decided to confront them head-on. We have broken the backbone of major drug suppliers and inter-state gangs,” he said, addressing a gathering in Dharamshala, after holding ‘anti-chitta (heroin) awareness Walkathon’.

“Under PIT-NDPS Act, 46 big traffickers have been detained. We have confiscated Rs. 46 crore worth of illegal property. We will not stop until every trace of ‘chitta’ is wiped out from Himachal. This fight is not just against traffickers, it is against the entire network of drug mafia and their empire”, he asserted.

The Chief Minister announced a reward to be provided to those giving information about those involved in ‘chitta’ business. “The awards include ₹10,000 for up to 2 grams of chitta, ₹25,000 for 5 grams, ₹50,000 for up to 25 grams, ₹5 lakh for up to 1(one) kg, and ₹10 lakh for on more than 1(one) kg. Information can be provided at the emergency number 112,” he said.

He said the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), Special Task Force (STF), the police, education, health, social justice departments including citizens were working to eradicate the menace.

Scores of school children and people from various sections of society participated in the event, where the Chief Minister also administered an anti-drug pledge to the people.
