“I am sure the Congress will never make a Dalit the Chief Minister of any State,” BJP MP Govind Karjol said in Bagalkot on Friday.
“Since Independence, the Congress has never appointed a Dalit as Chief Minister. I am sure it will not do it now,” Mr. Karjol said.
He told reporters that he was not interested in the power sharing tussles in the Congress as it is its internal matter.
“It is left to them if they retain Siddaramaiah as the Chief Minister or not. But I know this. The Congress has no regard for Dalits. It only uses them as vote bank. Similar is the case with Muslims. They are also used as vote bank but fail to get any party posts in the Congress,” he said.
“Long ago, Congress leaders conspired against the former Deputy Prime Minister Babu Jagjivan Ram and defeated him. Recently, in Karnataka, some Congress leaders also worked against G. Parameshwara who was pitted to be the next Chief Minister and made sure that he lost the Assembly polls. Dr. Parameshwara had worked hard for six years for the party. But he did not get justice in the Congress,” Mr. Karjol said.
He said that the traditional leadership of the Gandhi-Nehru family in the Congress has reduced AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge to a messenger of the party by takingn away his decision-making powers.
“I am sure he is feeling helpless, as he is unable to end the confusion in his own home State,” he said.
