A police constable was arrested by the Film Nagar police for stealing a wristwatch.
The missing watch, identified as a fake Rolex, was recovered from his home.
The accused was identified as Sriramula Sharan Kumar, a constable attached to the CAR Headquarters, and currently working as a mobile driver at Film Nagar police station.
Police said the theft took place on November 25 during a search at the home of a man booked in a cheating and forgery case.
“Kumar had been assigned to videograph the procedure but was seen in footage quietly pocketing the watch without documenting it in the seizure memo. The second set of videography, done by another constable, exposed the misappropriation and confirmed that Kumar failed to follow his obligations over entrusted property,” said an official release.
Based on these findings, a fresh case was registered at Film Nagar police station under the relevant section of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
He was arrested on November 28 after a prima facie case was established. Police said he admitted during questioning that he had taken the watch, which was later recovered on the basis of his disclosure.
