A consultative meeting with representatives of all recognised political parties was held in Chennai on Monday regarding the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The meeting was chaired by Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) Commissioner and District Election Officer J. Kumaragurubaran.

According to a press release, discussions were held on establishing a transparent legal framework for free and fair elections in line with the Constitution of India, the Representation of the People Acts of 1950 and 1951, the Registration of Electors Rules 1960, the Conduct of Elections Rules 1961, Supreme Court judgments, and the directions of the Election Commission of India.

The release mentioned that supervisory officers had been appointed for the 16 Assembly constituencies in Chennai district and detailed the main procedures and timetable for the SIR exercise.

The release added that the house-to-house enumeration would be carried out from November 4 to December 4, the draft electoral rolls would be published on December 9, claims and objections would be received until January, and the final electoral roll would be published on February 7, 2026.

The SIR exercise had been conducted eight times since 1951, the last one happening 21 years ago in 2002-04.
