Virudhunagar Municipal Councillors complained about bad road conditions across the town during the council meeting held on Friday.
The meeting was chaired by Chairman R. Madhavan in the presence of Municipal Commissioner Vijayakumar and Engineer Edwin Bright Jones.
Councillors Jayakumar, Michaelraj and Kalaiyarasan, pointed out that the service road under the road over bridge on Aruppukottai Road had remained dug up for several weeks without any work being carried out.
Mr. Jayakumar pointed out that he had raised it even during the last Council meeting held in October. The officials who had promised to complete the drainage work have left it unattended, he complained.
The dug up road has forced school students from Kattaiyapuram, Aathumedu, Karuppasamy Temple Street and Maththanaickenpatti road to take circuitous route to reach schools.
The Chairman promised that the work would be taken up immediately.
Other Councillors also raised the issue of bad roads. The members, including Saravanan, Venkatesan and Muthulakshmi, wanted the officials to repair the roads with potholes and craters at the earliest.
Mr. Madhavan said that, along with Municipal Commissioner, he would conduct an inspection of roads.
When the issue of ‘exorbitant’ hike of property tax to huts was raised by the Councillors, the Chairman said that the newly-joined Commissioner would be appraised of the issue for taking suitable action.
