A counsellor with the Women and Child Development department has been suspended after allegations surfaced that she mentally harassed the survivor during counselling in the Palathayi POCSO case. The action follows a complaint filed by Dhisha Kerala secretary Dinu Veyil seeking action against three mental health experts criticised by the court.
According to the complaint, the counsellors allegedly attempted to mentally break the child during counselling. Mr. Dinu stated on Facebook that the government must immediately initiate preliminary action against two more officials. A separate complaint demanding criminal proceedings against the official has been submitted to the DGP and is now being examined by the Kannur City Police Commissioner.
The court raised serious allegations against those who had counselled the survivor while delivering the verdict. The court made it clear that counsellors who try to psychologically harm the child should not be allowed to continue in the profession.
The case pertains to the sexual abuse of a Class IV girl in 2020, in which former Thrippangottur panchayat president and school teacher K. Padmarajan was sentenced to 40 years of imprisonment on November 15.
