The Central Crime Branch (CCB) of the Avadi City Police has arrested a couple for duping a job aspirant of ₹28 lakh after promising to get him a Railways job.
Based on a complaint filed by S. Ajith Kumar, 35, a resident of Thirumullaivoyal, the Avadi Central Crime Branch registered a case against the couple for taking ₹28 lakh from him on the promise of securing a TTE (Travelling Ticket Examiner) job in the Railways and cheating him.
According to the complainant, P. Gopinath, 43, of Saraswathi Nagar, Thirumullaivoyal, and his wife Sivagami, 41, allegedly collected ₹28 lakh from him through bank transfers, claiming they would get him appointed as a TTE. They also emailed him a fake appointment order.
Further, Sivagami allegedly handed over a TTE uniform, a tab, and a black bag to the complainant, saying that the date of joining would be informed soon.
When the complainant verified the appointment order with the Southern Railway office in Chennai, he learned that the order was fake. He then filed a complaint with the Avadi Police Commissioner seeking action and recovery of his money.
On investigation, the police arrested Gopinath and Sivagami and remanded them in judicial custody.
