The Thrissur District Court has granted anticipatory bail to Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) general secretary Anil Akkara in a case relating to the demolition of a concrete divider constructed by the Kerala State Transport Project (KSTP) at Muthuvara Centre, which had allegedly been obstructing public movement.
The Peramangalam police had taken a case against him for destroying public property.
While the complaint claimed a damage of ₹19,000, the court determined that the actual loss amounted to ₹6,000.
The authorities constructed the divider, blocking entry to the Muthuvara Siva temple, Kuttur, and the Choorakottukavu areas ignoring public protests. People were forced to travel all the way to Amala Hospital to take a U-turn to reach the opposite side, Mr. Akkara alleged. It was in this context that he intervened in the matter.
