In pursuit of their demand for immediate arrest of the killers of CPI (M) veteran leader Samineni Rama Rao, scores of CPI (M) cadre led by party State secretary John Wesley staged a dharna in front of the Integrated District Offices Complex (IDOC) in Khammam on Tuesday.

Mild tension prevailed in front of the IDOC when the demonstrators tried to enter its premises. A large posse of police personnel, deployed on bandobust duty, foiled their bid. The demonstrators staged a sit-in and raised slogans demanding the arrest of the culprits responsible for the gruesome murder of their party senior leader in Patharlapadu on October 31.

Dozens of villagers from Patharlapadu took part in the demonstration.

Addressing the dharna, Mr. John Wesley reiterated the charge that Samineni Rama Rao’s assassination was a ‘political murder’. The police are yet to arrest the assailants involved in the brutal murder of the veteran leader, known for his able leadership in defending the rights of farmers and marginalised sections, he said, questioning the ‘delay’ in nabbing the culprits.

He warned of a State-wide agitation if the assailants were not apprehended and brought to justice forthwith. Slain leader Rama Rao’s wife Swarajyam, CPI (M) State secretariat member P. Sudarshan Rao, CPI senior leader B. Hemanth Rao, BRS and New Democracy leaders, among others, took part in the demonstration.
