Normal life remained unaffected in Bhadrachalam Agency, Bhadradri Kothagudem district, during the nation-wide protest (bandh) called by the banned CPI (Maoist) on Sunday, against the killing of Maoist commander Madvi Hidma and several other Maoist cadres in an ‘encounter’ in Andhra Pradesh on November 18.

According to sources, the protest had virtually no impact on daily life in the temple town of Bhadrachalam and in other parts of the tribal dominated district on Sunday.

TGSRTC buses plied as usual in the Agency. However, services on Bhadrachalam-Venkatapuram and Bhadrachalam-Chintoor routes were operated only till 5 p.m. as a safety precaution, sources said.

Police maintained a strict vigil on the Telangana – Chhattisgarh border on Sunday. No untoward incidents were reported from anywhere in the inter-state forested border region spanning the Agency area during the bandh.

The proscribed outfit suffered successive setbacks following the killing of several top Maoist leaders in a series of ‘encounters’ in neighbouring Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh recently.
