A booth level officer (BLO) in Delampady panchayat in Kasaragod, Kerala, has lodged a complaint alleging that a Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] panchayat member assaulted him. A video purportedly showing the officer being threatened has also surfaced.

The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday morning during a camp organised at booth No. 78 in Delampady for filling and submitting SIR forms.

According to the complaint, BLO P. Ajith was assaulted by Surendran, CPI(M) member from Ward 7, Payaradka. The BLO has filed a complaint with the Adoor police.

Mr. Surendran, who also chairs the panchayat’s welfare standing committee, had earlier faced a complaint for allegedly assaulting a youth inside the panchayat office. Sources said the two had previously engaged in a verbal dispute over the distribution of SIR forms.

The latest complaint alleges that Mr. Surendran grabbed the BLO by the collar, used abusive language and pushed him to the ground.

The BLO said he would also take the matter to higher officials.
