The Cyberabad traffic police booked 529 persons for drunk driving between November 7 and 8.

The data revealed that young and middle-aged motorists accounted for the majority of offenders, with 213 drivers aged between 21 and 30 years, 179 between 31 and 40 years, and 91 between 41 and 50 years.

All offenders are being produced before the court. The Cyberabad traffic police reiterated that driving under the influence of alcohol is a serious criminal offence, warning that any intoxicated driver involved in a fatal crash will be booked under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (Culpable Homicide Not Amounting to Murder), carrying a maximum sentence of ten years’ imprisonment and a fine.

During the previous week (November 3–7), 357 drunk driving cases were disposed of in court. Of these, 307 offenders were fined, 27 were penalised with fines and social service, and 23 were sentenced to fines along with imprisonment.
