A total of 177 people, who were stranded in cyclone Ditwah-hit Sri Lanka, returned to Tamil Nadu on Sunday (November 30, 2025) morning.

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, on Sunday, announced that the Tamil Nadu government was prepared to join the Government of India to extend relief measures to the neighbouring island nation in which the cyclone has left behind a huge trail of destruction.

“Neighbouring Sri Lanka has witnessed a massive disaster due to cyclone Ditwah. The Sri Lankan people are suffering, as more than a hundred people have died and several areas have been severely affected. While expressing deep condolences to those who have died in the natural disaster, the people of Tamil Nadu stand by the people of Sri Lanka in their huge suffering,” Mr. Stalin said in a statement.

In the statement, Mr. Stalin said that a total of 177 people, including 60 women and four children, who were stranded in Sri Lanka, were brought to Tamil Nadu on Sunday morning. “The Tamil Nadu government is prepared to extend a helping hand to the people of Sri Lanka, who have been affected by cyclone Ditwah by providing relief materials, including food and medicines,” Mr. Stalin said.

The Chief Minister said that he has instructed Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam to constitute a committee of officials who would coordinate with the Government of India to extend relief measures to the people of Sri Lanka.
