The districts of South Coastal Andhra Pradesh witnessed very heavy rainfall accompanied with light thunderstorm, lightning, gusty winds speed reaching 30-40 kmph due to the impact of Cyclone Ditwah. The Cyclone Warning Centre (CWC), Visakhapatnam, has issued a red alert for this region along with adjoining North Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts.
According to the CWC, cyclonic storm Ditwah over south-west Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts moved northwards with a speed of five kmph during Sunday morning (November 30, 2025) and lay centred over the same region. The minimum distance of the centre of the cyclone from north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts is about 80 km.
Due to the possibility of widespread heavy rains in the region, a holiday has been declared for all government, private, aided, and Anganwadi schools, as well as all government, private, and junior colleges on Monday (December 1). The public grievance redressal system (PGRS) programme is also cancelled, a release said.
Prakasam, SPSR Nellore, and Tirupati district administrations and local Ministers have alerted the public. In the wake of cyclone Ditwah, Minister for Endowments Anam Ramanarayana Reddy directed the authorities to be on full alert. He directed the officials to take special precautions for the catchment areas of Penna River. He asked the authorities to be fully vigilant for the coastal villages and take measures to ensure that the people do not face any problems and asked the Revenue Department officials to advise the fishermen not to go to sea.
The revenue and police machinery were directed to prepare effectively to deal with any threat. The Irrigation Department officials reviewed the situation at all the ponds and streams to take immediate action. The Minister assured the people that the government will take all measures to deal with the threat of the cyclone. He asked all the NDA leaders to be accessible to the people in the region.
He suggested that officials of all departments, including electricity, medical, transport, police, and revenue to work in coordination. He along with District Cyclone Special Officer and State government Secretary N. Yuvraj conducted a teleconference with the officials and discussed the measures being taken in the wake of heavy rains.
The minister inquired about the inflow and outflow of water at Somasila and Kandaleru reservoirs, Sangam and Nellore barrages. He advised the officials to be vigilant and assess the water situation at the reservoirs, Biraperu Vagu and Boggeru Vagu in Atmakur areas. He said that Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu is continuously monitoring the impact of the cyclone.
Similarly, Minister for MA&UD Ponguru Narayana alerted the residents of the Penna catchment area after reviewing the cyclone situation with officials from his camp office in Nellore through teleconferences. He instructed the officials of all departments to work in coordination and ensure that the people do not face any inconvenience.
He asked the officials to be ready to face any situation and directed them to take measures to prevent loss of property and lives. He asked them to pay special attention to low-lying areas and if necessary, the residents of these areas should be relocated. Fishermen were urged not to go fishing as there would be turbulence on the coast for three days.
He inspected several development projects at Sunday Market Road during heavy rain. He directed the engineering officials to complete the construction of manholes and side drains as soon as possible. He also suggested to follow quality standards in the road construction without any compromise.
