The Pamban port authorities have hoisted ‘cyclone warning 2’ on Monday as the Fisheries Department warned fishermen against venturing into the sea for fishing till further orders.
Officials said this had been done as the Cyclone Montha in the Bay of Bengal was expected to further intensify into a severe cyclonic storm and is projected to cross the Andhra Pradesh coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam on Tuesday evening. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted the possibility of moderate to heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry for the next two days.
The Fisheries department has advised fishermen to keep their boats and fishing equipment in a safe place.
