Dakshayini Avva to get award in Dubai on Saturday

Chancellor of Sharnbasva University and president of the Sharanabasaveshwar Vidya Vardhak Sangha Dakshayini Avva has been selected for the first Annual International Award instituted in memory of Dr. Tontadarya Siddlinga Swami of Gadag by Vachana TV.

The award marks the channel’s first anniversary and honours its mission of disseminating the philosophy of 12th century social reformer Mahatma Basaveshwara and the Sharanas.

Ms. Avva, accompanied by ninth Peetadipathi of the Sharanabasaveshwar Samsthan Doddappa Appa, sangha Secretary Basavaraj Deshmukh and Sharnbasva University Dean Lakshmi Patil Maka, will fly on Thursday from Hyderabad to Dubai to receive the honour.

The award, which includes a cash prize, a plaque and a commendation certificate, will be presented on Saturday at Millennium Plaza in Dubai by space scientist and former ISRO chairman A.S. Kiran Kumar, in the presence of the former Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda and Pandithrathya Shivacharya Swami of Sanehalli Math.

Among this year’s award winners are Vijayalakshmi and Gurunath Gaddi, who will receive the Fa. Gu. Halakatti Award, music director Hamsalekha, chosen for the award named after Jagadguru Lingananda Srigalu, Jagadguru Mathe Gangadevi, selected for the award in memory of Sri Mahanta Appa of Ilkal, S.G. Siddaramaiah, chosen for the award named after Taralabalu Jagadguru Sri Shivakumar, I.R. Matpathi, recipient of the award instituted in the name of Channabasava Pattadevaru of Bhalki and Ashwini Puneeth Rajkumar, selected for the award in memory of Sharanabaswappa Appa.

The former Minister and actor Umashree, MLC and actor Sudharani and several other dignitaries are expected to attend the ceremony.
