In a relief to residents of Mukherjee Nagar’s Signature View Apartments (SVA), the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) on Wednesday approved rent payments with a 10% annual hike for families who vacated their unsafe homes last year, following a Delhi High Court order.
The DDA cleared rent payments from July 1, 2023, or from the actual date of vacation, whichever is later. According to a statement, residents of high-income group flats will receive ₹50,000 per month, while those in middle-income group flats will get ₹38,000 per month. The rent will increase by 10% annually starting July 1, 2024.
The DDA said all arrears will be disbursed to eligible residents by the 7th of the following month. To streamline the process, a camp office has been set up to handle documentation, flat handovers, and relocation support. “Hundreds of residents have already vacated their flats, and rent payments are being processed as per court directives,” it said.
Welcoming the decision, Gaurav Pandey, general secretary of the SVA Welfare Association, said the move finally eases the burden on residents “who have paid rent from their own pockets for two years”. The 12-tower complex was declared “structurally unsafe” by IIT Delhi in 2022, prompting the High Court in December 2024 to order its demolition and direct the DDA to compensate the displaced families until their flats are ready.
