More than a fortnight after a pick-up van driver was crushed to death under a collapsed girder installed as part of the Aroor–Thuravur six-lane elevated highway, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has blacklisted a company for alleged lapses in construction.
The company has been identified as Ashoka Buildcon, which had been undertaking the construction of the Aroor–Thuravur flyover on the NH 66. According to NHAI sources, the company has been temporarily barred from participating in the NHAI bids for one month.
The accident occurred on November 13 when a girder collapsed onto the victim’s moving vehicle. The deceased was identified as Rajesh, a native of Pallippad, Haripad.
The incident triggered widespread protests against both the company and the NHAI.
