Death of two youth in accident triggers protest in Palacode

The death of two youth reportedly in a hit-and-run incident in a Palacode led to protests and blockade of Palacode police station alleging murder. The victims Murugan (20) and Sunikumar (19) of Sennampatty were on a motorcycle heading towards Palacode, when they were reportedly hit by an unknown vehicle near Sinnarhalli junction on Wednesday night. Murugan was pursuing third year diploma while Sunilkumar was employed in a private company in Kelamangalam.

While Palacode police retrieved the bodies, the news of the fatal accident triggered protests with over 300 villagers of Sennampatty arriving at the Palacode police station. The protesters alleged conspiracy stating that the circumstances surrounding the accident were murky. According to the villages, both the victims were in relationship with two girls respectively from another community. It was also alleged that the victims were earlier threatened by the girls side.

The villagers demanded the arrest of the accused and refused to receive the bodies. Later, talks were held by Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajusundar assuring investigation into the accident. Following this, the protesters dispersed.
