With a 19-year-old woman succumbing to injuries sustained in the November 4 train accident in Bilaspur on Wednesday (November 12, 2025), the death toll in the train crash has climbed to 12. Bilaspur Superintendent of Police Rajnesh Singh said the injured victim, Mahwish Parveen, who was hospitalised died on Wednesday.
Last week, a MEMU (mainline electric multiple unit) passenger train heading to Bilaspur from Gevra (in neighbouring Korba district) hit a stationary cargo train, killing 11 and injuring 20. Among those killed was Vidya Sagar, the loco pilot, of the passenger train.
An initial probe conducted by the Railways reportedly found that the crew of the MEMU passenger train failed to control it at the red signal.
