Defence employee ends life due to dowry harassment

A 25-year-old defence employee allegedly died by suicide on Monday, at Ramakrishnapuram, under Gopalapatnam police station limits, reportedly due to domestic harassment. According to police sources, the woman, a B. Tech graduated from the Andhra University, was employed in a Defence research organisation. She had married a man from Vepada on December 6, 2024.

The parents told the police that they had given a dowry of ₹5 lakh in cash, eight tolas of gold, and an acre of land to the groom at the time of the wedding. However, they alleged that dowry harassment had caused the woman severe mental distress, forcing her to end her life.

Police said that a case has been registered and investigation is on.
