Defence public sector firm Mishra Dhatu Nigam Limited (MIDHANI) has announced a significant contribution to the ‘Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra’ in Ayodhya by manufacturing and supplying 31 specially engineered titanium windows for the ‘Pradakshina’ corridor of the temple complex.
MIDHANI has been supplying titanium alloys for strategic applications for over four decades. This marks the first time titanium is being used as a structural and architectural material in a monument. Known for its exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance and longevity, titanium is typically reserved for high-precision aerospace and defence applications, according to an official release.
Its resistance to atmospheric, chemical and moisture-related degradation makes it ideal for outdoor structures expected to endure centuries of environmental exposure. By incorporating titanium into the temple’s architectural elements, the project ensures unmatched durability, minimal maintenance and a timeless aesthetic appeal that reflects the sanctity and permanence of the Ram Mandir.
The windows were crafted using advanced processes such as vacuum arc melting, forging and hot rolling with a wide plate mill; water jet cutting for intricate patterns; and CNC machining for precision, uniformity and high-quality surface finish, giving each panel a three-dimensional appeal. The distinctive golden appearance was achieved through an anodisation process. All components were designed, engineered and produced indigenously, the release added.
