Delhi Police on Thursday rolled out the ‘automatic e-FIR’ initiative, making it easier for victims of cyber fraud involving over ₹1 lakh to report their cases online.
“All these e-FIRs will be investigated at par with regular FIRs in their respective jurisdictional cyber police station, Crime Branch, and IFSO,” Delhi Police spokesperson Sanjay Tyagi said.
He said that registration of an e-FIR will ensure a prompt and thorough investigation, seizure, and recovery of the defrauded amount.
Devesh Chandra Srivastava, Special Commissioner of Police (Crime), said that complainants who have lost ₹1 lakh or more can call the cyber helpline at 1930, and the complaint will be converted into an e-FIR. Previously, this was only for frauds above ₹10 lakh.
The initiative uses digital verification and real-time acknowledgment to improve accountability and eliminate delays in FIRs, Mr. Tyagi added.
