Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday announced a cash prize of ₹1.5 crore for Delhi woman cricketer Pratika Rawal for her contribution in helping the Indian women’s team clinch the maiden ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 title.

“Today, at the chief minister’s Jan Seva Sadan, we welcomed the talented young player of the Indian women’s cricket team, Pratika Rawal. Our brilliant daughter [Pratika] has made Delhi proud. In recognition of her commitment to the sport and her outstanding performance, the Delhi government will award her a prize of ₹1.5 crore,” Ms. Gupta said in an X post, sharing the images of her meeting with the 25-year-old World Cup winner.

Ms. Rawal, who amassed 308 runs to become the fourth-highest run getter in the quadrennial showpiece event, missed out on playing the final and semifinal matches after suffering an injury in a match against Bangladesh. India lifted the coveted cup after defeating South Africa by 52 runs on November 2.

After India’s victory, a wheelchair-bound Ms. Rawal was escorted by her teammates for on-field celebrations. The Chief Minister lavished praise on Ms. Rawal, saying that she is a living embodiment of energy, courage and women’s empowerment. “Her [Pratika Rawal] journey shows that Delhi not only gives birth to dreams but also helps them take flight. Heartiest wishes for her bright future,” the CM said.

Responding to the award, the batting all-rounder said that it was a great source of inspiration.

“Delhi has always given me the confidence to move forward, and this honour received today from your [Rekha Gupta] hands fill me with even more energy, dedication, and responsibility. I promise that in the coming times, I will continue to work with full dedication to take the name of the country and Delhi even higher on the international stage,” Ms. Rawal said in a post on X.
