With Stage 2 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in place across Delhi-NCR, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Wednesday announced the addition of 40 more train trips per day on weekdays.

The move is aimed at encouraging commuters to use the metro rather than their private vehicles, a senior DMRC official said, adding that this would help mitigate the deteriorating air quality in the city.

“The DMRC operations team was directed to run 40 extra train trips per day across its corridors, offering more passenger capacity during weekdays,” DMRC Managing Director Vikas Kumar directed the officials.

With these additional trips on seven out of nine lines, the total per-day trips will increase to 4,382 from 4,342.

The train trips would further increase to 60 if Stage 3 of the GRAP is enforced in the future.
