The Supeme Court will continue to hear bail pleas of activists Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam and others in the February 2020 Delhi riots case, on Monday (November 24, 2025).

Meanwhile, on Friday (November 21, 2025), the Delhi Police vehemently objected to pleas for bail filed by Mr. Khalid and others accused under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in the 2020 Delhi riots ‘larger conspiracy’ case, claiming that they only cite the Constitution for the sake of getting bail.

In the previous hearing, Additional Solicitor General S.V. Raju for the Delhi Police described how the violence unfolded during the 2020 Delhi riots, before a Bench of the Supreme Court comprising Justices Aravind Kumar and N.V. Anjaria on Friday (November 21, 2025). Citing statements from a protected witness, Mr. Raju said that conspirators planned violence, organised chakka jams to disrupt and “choke Assam out of India,” and further mobilised rioters armed with sticks, who engaged in heavy stone-pelting. The Bench adjourned the matter to Monday (November 24, 2025).
