Thousands of devotees witnessed the Mahakumbabishegam of Sri Adhi Kumbeswarar Temple at Kumbakonam on Monday morning.

The consecration was performed around 7 a.m. Priests carried pots containing holy water on their heads from the Yagasalai to the shrine and poured on the kalasams atop the temple towers. Later, holy water was sprinkled on the devotees, who thronged the temple in the early hours.

Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment P.K. Sekarbabu, Minister for Higher Education Govi Chezhiaan, Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham seer Shankara Vijayendra Saraswathi Shankaracharya and BJP State president Nainar Nagenthran were among those participated.
