The Belthangady police have registered cases against 21 and more persons for their alleged unauthorised assembly in front of Belthangady tahsildar office on Monday (October 28).
Rashtriya Hindu Jagaran Vedike, Belthangady, had called for a demonstration in front of the tahsildar office on Monday accusing the government of foisting false cases against activist Mahesh Shetty Thimarody. The police had denied permission for demonstration citing pendency of the writ petition in the Karnataka High Court of Mr. Thimarody challenging the order of Puttur Assistant Commissioner externing him to Raichur District. The police also cited shady happenings in the locality on Monday as the other reason for denying permission.
With a large number of people assembling in front of tahsildar’s office and demonstrators refusing to leave the place despite warning by police, a case was booked against activist Prasanna Ravi and others for unlawful assembly and causing obstruction to people coming to the office. They were booked for offences under Sections 89(2), 57, and 285 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
