The Health Department has commissioned a dialysis facility at the Government Hospital in Palladam in Tiruppur district, much to the relief of hundreds of kidney patients in and around the highly-populated town.

On Monday (November 11, 2025), Minister for Information and Publicity M.P. Saminathan commissioned two dialysis machines in the hospital, in the presence of Tiruppur Collector Manish S. Narnaware, and Joint Director of Health Services Meera.

The dialysis facility has been a long-felt need for the 91-bedded hospital. Kidney patients, hitherto, had to travel to the government medical college hospitals in Tiruppur and Coimbatore for dialysis.

With the new facility, six to eight patients could be provided with dialysis treatment per day with the two machines from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Chief Medical Officer Ramasamy said.

The existing facilities including X-ray, ECG, ultrasound scan, ventilator and full-fledged laboratory are being optimally utilised. The 108 ambulance and mortuary is also fully functional.

A new building to house the Trauma Care Unit is coming up at a cost of ₹3.5 crore. Likewise, a similar sum is being spent for constructing a new building for Maternity Care, Dr. Ramasamy said.

The Palladam Government Hospital, located on the Coimbatore-Tiruchi National Highway, serves the immediate needs of accident victims. On an average, the hospital handles 80 to 100 accident cases every month. Only severe cases of head injuries are referred to the government medical college hospitals in Tiruppur and Coimbatore.
