A seven-year-old speech impaired boy was grievously injured in a stray dog attack on Tuesday at Sivaganga Colony of Mansoorabad division.

As per the details available, the boy was playing outside his home when a pack of stray dogs attacked him. As the boy could not shout, none of his family members noticed the incident. A neighbour however, found the dogs gathered around the boy, and drove them away. The boy received injuries on various body parts, and his ear was bitten off, sources informed.

Corporator Koppula Narasimha Reddy who represents Mansoorabad, blamed the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation for not taking measures against the stray dogs and garbage accumulation.

A statement from him said the boy has been shifted to hospital, and ₹10,000 has been given to the family for immediate relief. There has not been any statement from Mayor G.Vijayalakshmi or from GHMC about this incident, and Chief Veterinary Officer Abdul Wakeel was not available for a comment.

Mr. Narasima Reddy informed that of the 20-odd dogs that roamed the streets in the slum-like locality, 15 have been picked up by GHMC dog catcher squad by evening. Efforts are on to capture the remaining too, after which they will be shifted to shelter homes in Autonagar and Nagole.

Three to four tractor loads of garbage was cleared from the area upon Mr.Narasimha Reddy’s intervention. While the slum is connected to the Swachh Auto Trolleys, they do not visit the area as the residents often refuse to pay for garbage clearance.

Mr. Narasimha Reddy also informed that a family in the area feeds the stray dogs regularly, which might have increased the number of dogs and induced the pack mentality.
