Actor Dileep, who was acquitted in the actor rape case, has sought a probe into what he termed as a conspiracy to implicate him in the case and to mislead the government that he was the conspirator in the case.
Talking to The Hindu hours after his acquittal, Mr. Dileep claimed that he was the real victim in the case, “who was framed by a group of police personnel for their personal gains and popularity.”
Mr. Dileep, who claimed that he never had any issues with the survivor in the case, said he felt sad about the plight of the survivor.
“I always had a very cordial and friendly relationship with her. We never had any issues between us. She did not even make any references about me in the case during the first four months of the investigation of the case. However, she made some references about me to the investigators, which I believe was made following the insistence of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) members,” he alleged.
“The SIT, which conspired to implicate me in the case, even misled the government and made them believe that I was the mastermind of the crime. Even the Chief Minister, who had declared that there was no conspiracy in the case after the arrest of the first six accused, was misled by a handful of the officers of the team. The government should probe these issues,” he demanded.
The actor alleged that some of the officials in the team victimised him for their personal as well as professional gains. “They spread canards about me and my family members. The team even booked a case against a Malayalam actor for making a social media post in my favour. They also tried to implicate my lawyers who were defending me in the case, hoping that they could prevent me from legally fighting the case,” said Mr. Dileep.
“Everyone in the SIT wanted fame and glory at the expense of my life. They tried to socially isolate me and my family members. They planted stories in the media to defame me and created a hostile social environment against me. They tried to shoo away the family audience of my movies. The team members thought that they could cash in on my social standing and popularity as an actor,” he said.
Mr. Dileep said that the head of the SIT had questioned him for hardly one and a half hours one day. “Yet, they planted stories in the media stating that I was grilled for 13 hours straight. Most of the SIT members were engaged in casual talks with me during the said period of interrogation,” he said.
The actor said he was contemplating legal action against those who conspired to “falsely implicate” him in a case and thus destroyed his life and career. A decision will be taken after obtaining the court verdict, he said.
Mr. Dileep said he was yet to decide on seeking a membership in the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists, of which he was once a member. “Let the organisation make up its mind in view of my acquittal in the case,” he added.
