Innovation programme

The Kalasalingam Innovation Foundation (KIF) and KARE hosted the Viksit Bharat Buildathon 2025 event, which focused on promoting innovation. Initiated by Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog. Approximately 500 students from classes VI to XII in the Virudhunagar District participated and received training in designing and prototype development of their innovations.

The National Live Buildathon was inaugurated by Minister of Education at Vigyan Bhawan, featuring 400 students. B. Subathra, CEO of KIF and KARE, emphasised how creativity can help address social issues. S. Kundhavai proposed a vote of thanks.

Blood donation camp

On the occasion of former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Kamarajar’s birthday, Theni Melapettai Hindu Nadargal Uravinmurai (TMHNU), Theni, organised a special blood donation camp. People of Theni District, teachers, and students from all schools and colleges donated their blood. It was conducted on National Voluntary Blood Donation Day at Tamil Nadu Multi-Speciality Hospital. Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ma. Subramanian presented the award for the service. TMHNU General Secretary M. M. Anandavel received the award.

National Service Scheme of Sri Krishnasamy Arts and Science College, Mettamalai Sattur, organised a blood donation camp in collaboration with the Government Primary Health Centre, Uppatur, Sattur. It aims to create awareness about the importance of donating blood. Chairman K. Raju, secretary R. Muthu Kumar and principal N. Subburaj. A team of doctors Dr. S.Selvakumar and Dr.Rahul, and nurses from the medical department conducted the camp. More than 50 students and staff members participated. Refreshments and a certificate were given to all donors. NSS programme officers M.Muthumari, J. Jeniba, P. Sri Kumaran and K. Mukesh arranged.

The Departments of Electronics and Communication Engineering and Biomedical Engineering of Syed Ammal Engineering College, Ramanathapuram, jointly organised a National Level Technical Symposium – ‘Voltra 2025’. Correspondent Chinnadurai Abdullah was the chief guest. He highlighted that India’s vast youth potential can transform the nation into a developed country, fulfilling the dream of former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. Junior Telecom Officer Jai Karthick was the guest of honour. He encouraged students to continuously seek knowledge through various platforms and to make the best use of the internet for academic and professional growth.

Technical competitions such as Paper Presentation, Project Expo, and Quiz Competition, were conducted. More than 60 participants from various engineering institutions participated.

In another event, V. Madhumitha, a student at Syed Ammal Engineering College, Ramanathapuram, won silver medal in shotput at the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Trophy State-Level Competitions, with an impressive throw of 13.51 metres. Ramanathapuram district Collector Simranjeet Singh Kahlon congratulated.

Correspondent Chinnadurai Abdullah, principal M. Periyasamy, and other faculty members felicitated her.

Alagappa Institute of Management, Karaikudi, students, under the Alagappa University’s Village Extension Programme, planted palm seeds along the lake bund in Vairavanpatti village. It was done as part of the State government’s six crore palm seed planting initiative. Palm seeds were provided by Vairavanpatti panchayat office. Prof. K. Chandrasekar coordinated the programme.

Research Forum –Minerva of the Department of English, Sri Kaliswari College, Sivakasi, organised a research paper presentation on the topic “Posthumanist Ecological Consciousness in Amitav Ghosh’s The Hungry Tide”. The research article was presented by Assistant Professor M. Vairamuthu. He discussed how Ghosh’s The Hungry Tide portrays the interconnectedness between humans, animals, and the environment. He pointed out that the novel challenges anthropocentric views and embodies a new ecological consciousness rooted in coexistence, compassion, and interdependence.

Assistant Professor K. Mahesini welcomed the gathering. She briefly introduced the theme of the presentation, emphasising its relevance in the present environmental and literary context.

Head of the Department S. Femina highlighted how posthumanist thought encourages readers to rethink human relationships with nature.

Assistant Professor J. Santha Christina proposed a vote of thanks.

The Environment Club of GTN Arts College, Dindigul, organised a tree plantation drive at Kathiravanpatti Pond, near Dindigul. Environment Club Coordinator P. Ravichandran, and Assistant Professor M. Muruganandam, along with student organisers Selvan Sikkandar Basha and Selvan Sanjay Kumar coordinated. College Secretary K. Rethinam and Director R. Durai insisted that the students plant more trees. A total of 100 saplings were planted.

This initiative aims to create environmental awareness among students and the community and to support sustainable ecosystem development in and around Kathiravanpatti.

The Postgraduate Department of Economics, Ayya Nadar Janaki Ammal College, Sivakasi, organised a State-level Inter-Collegiate Competition on the theme ‘Go Swadeshi’. Principal C. Ashok inaugurated. He said these were times to promote self-reliance for boosting the local economy and reminded that Government’s bold step towards swadeshi movement by embracing digital sovereignty and a self-reliant future. More than 180 students across the State participated. Fatima College, Madurai, emerged as the overall champion.
