The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, ordered by the Election Commission, got underway in central districts on Tuesday.

Booth level officers (BLOs), monitored by Supervisors, began distributing the enumeration forms to voters as part of the exercise. Agents of recognised political parties also accompanied the BLOs during the distribution of the enumeration forms. Collectors of the respective districts fanned out to different places to oversee the distribution of the enumeration forms.

Voters are required to fill out the forms in duplicate and hand them back to the BLOs when they visit the households again to collect the forms. The enumeration would go on till December 4.

Officials have clarified that voters are not required to submit any document at the time of submission of the forms. The enumeration forms, printed in Tamil, carry the names of existing voters along with their photos. Any adult member of the family can fill out the details sought in the form including date of birth and mobile number. They can affix the latest colour photograph in the forms. BLOs have been instructed to help out the voters in filling the forms.

Tiruchi Collector V. Saravanan, who inspected the distribution of enumeration forms at Woraiyur and K. K. Nagar in Tiruchi, said the exercise had got under way without any major issue on Tuesday. In Tiruchi district, the enumeration forms would be distributed by 2,543 BLOs in the nine Assembly constituencies.

Perambalur Collector N. Mirunalini said voters can get details of the previous SIR from the website https://elections.tn.gov.in and if their names were not in the previous SIR rolls, they can provide details of their close relatives such as parents or grandparents. The BLOs will help the voters to fill out the details.

Tiruvarur Collector V. Mohanachandran said the completed enumeration forms could also be filed through the ECINET App or the website https://voters.eci.gov.in/

Objections and claims

Based on the enumeration, the draft electoral rolls will be published on December 9. Objections and claims can be filed between December 9 and January 8. The BLOs will decide on them after inquiry. Notices will be issued to voters if they have not provided the required information or provided wrong information. Only those voters who are issued notices will be required to submit any one of the 13 documents specified by the EC. The BLOs concerned will pass orders after verification/inquiry. The final electoral rolls will be published only after this process on February 7, 2026.

The district administrations have notified helplines for each Assembly constituency to help voters fill out the enumeration forms and provide information on the SIR process.
