The Special Intensive Revision of electoral roll commenced in the southern districts on Tuesday.

As the SIR is to be taken up with January 1, 2026 as the qualifying date for enrolling names in voters list, distribution of forms has commenced.

A total of 1,490 Booth Level Officers are visiting the houses in five Assembly constituencies of Tirunelveli, Palayamkottai, Ambasamudram, Nanguneri, and Radhapuram to distribute the forms which will be filled by the voters with the assistance of the BLOs or the volunteers.

A total of 18 Assistant Electoral Registration Officers and five Electoral Registration Officers are monitoring this exercise in the Assembly constituencies.

District Collector R. Sukumar inspected the distribution of SIR forms to voters by the Booth Level Officers who visited the houses at Shanthi Nagar in Palayamkottai segment, Amman Sannidhi Street in Tirunelveli constituency, Cheranmahadevi in Ambasamudram segment, Singampaththu in Nanguneri constituency, and Valliyoor in Radhapuram segment.

“The BLOs and the representatives of recognised political parties will help the voters fill the forms and submit it. The enumerators have been told to be neutral in their duty by enrolling only the eligible voters,” Dr. Sukumar said.

If the voters have any doubt, they may contact the helpline numbers 1950 and 0462–2501181.

Thoothukudi District Collector K. Elambahavath inspected the SIR forms in a few places in Ottapidaaram (Reserved) Assembly constituency and Thoothukudi segment on Tuesday as the month-long exercise started.

“This exercise will identify three types of voters – dead, migrated or absentee and double entry and hence the purification of voters’ list will be possible through SIR. We expect most of the voters will immediately fill-up the forms and return it to the BLOs,” Mr. Elambahavath said.

Kanniyakumari District Collector R. Alagumeena and Tenkasi District Collector A.K. Kamal Kishore inspected the distribution of the SIR forms to the voters.
