Director of Medical Education (DME) K.V. Vishwanathan will take a detailed statement of the wife of Venu, the Kollam native who died at the Government Medical College Hospital (MCH) here on November 5 while undergoing treatment for heart attack, to hear her side of the story.

Venu’s family had alleged that he was not given due care at the MCH, even though he had been admitted there for over five days. A voice message sent by the patient to his friends and relatives, describing the harrowing time he was having at the MCH and accusing the hospital authorities of not giving him adequate care, had gone viral .

However, the Cardiology department had maintained that all possible care was given to Venu and that all treatment as per the protocol had been administered.

‘Clarity needed’

Following the allegations of lack of medical attention, a team of doctors led by the Joint Director of Medical Education had been asked to inquire into the incident. The report submitted to the DME, while concluding that there were no lapses in treatment, stated that more clarity was needed from the family of the deceased on the issues they had encountered in MCH and the possible failure in communication between the doctors and the patient’s family

Dr. Vishwanathan said that the final report would be submitted to the Health Minister only after he heard the version of the patient’s family.
