The DMK and its allies on Tuesday staged demonstrations in Tiruchi and other districts in the central region against the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Tamil Nadu.

The State-wide demonstrations were organised after a directive from the DMK high command. The demonstrators condemned the Election Commission, accusing it of functioning as a “puppet” of the BJP-led government at the Centre.

The cadre of the DMK and its allies carried placards containing messages against the SIR exercise in Tiruchi city at the demonstration organised near the Collectorate in which over 3,000 members of the DMK and its allies participated.

Similar demonstrations were held in Perambalur, Ariyalur, Pudukottai, Nagapattinam and Mayiladuthurai districts, said police sources.
