A 43-year-old DMK functionary was shot dead with a country-made gun in Salem and two persons were detained on suspicion on Saturday (November 22, 2025).

The deceased was identified as C. Rajendran, a resident of Kirankadu near Kariyakovil, who was a farmer and the DMK secretary of the Kirankadu branch.

According to the police, there was enmity between Rajendran and his relatives Rajamanickam (39) and Palanisamy (43) of the same locality over a land dispute. On Friday night (November 21, 2025), when Rajendran and his wife Saritha were heading to their farmland on a two-wheeler, unidentified persons shot him with a country-made gun. Rajendran suffered gunshot wounds to his neck and back and died on the spot. The police sent the body to Salem Government Hospital for post mortem examination.

The Kariyakovil police registered a case and a special team was formed. The police have nabbed Rajamanickam and Palanisamy for inquiry. The police are yet to seize the weapon.
