DMK will continue fight to reclaim Tamil Nadu’s rights, says Kanimozhi

DMK deputy general secretary and Member of Parliament Kanimozhi Karunanidhi on Friday said that the party will continue to raise its voice and fight to reclaim the rights of Tamil Nadu, while addressing the media in Thoothukudi.

She said, “For the State rights, the DMK has been continuously fighting. From Perarignar Anna, Kalaignar Karunanidhi and now Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, the DMK has always been a movement that consistently fought for the rights of the State.”

Criticizing the Centre, she added that since the BJP came to power, through every bill and every possible way, they have been focused on taking away the rights of the States.

Ms. Kanimozhi noted that the funds that should be rightfully allocated to Tamil Nadu were not being given properly and the demands placed by Tamil Nadu were not fulfilled.

“Recently, the metro projects for Madurai and Coimbatore were rejected. In several such ways, Tamil Nadu continues to be neglected and deprived by the union government. We will continue to raise our voice and fight against this to reclaim our rights,” she observed.

Mentioning about the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, she added that the BJP government is curtailing the voting rights of non-BJP ruled States in the country.

“As SIR has been rushed through, it has become a burden on those who work in the process. They have been pushed into a situation where it is impossible to complete SIR-related work,” Ms. Kanimozhi noted.

She further explained that, “During the previous SIR process, a six month extension was given. But, currently they are implementing the process in such a hurried manner. Implementing it this way will snatch away the rights of the States and in future, it poses a danger of questioning people’s citizenship itself.”
