As per the announcement of the Election Commission of India (ECI) for beginning the process of Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Tamil Nadu, door-to-door enumeration works have begun in Madurai district from Tuesday.

The initial stage of the SIR process, which would encompass noting the details of electors based on their constituency, would continue till December 4.

A Booth-Level Officer in Tiruppalai falling under the Madurai East Assembly constituency said about 15 BLOs in Tiruppalai would split the houses among themselves to carry out the enumeration work more efficiently and quickly.

“Though every BLO will be covering about 300 to 400 houses, with close to 1,000 voters, we have been instructed to visit every house at least three times in the stipulated time period,” the official added.

During the first visit of BLOs, in case of the presence of electors, they would be issued two forms consisting of their photograph, name, address, QR code, constituency, number, booth address.

In addition, they would have to fill in their name, date of birth, Aadhaar number, telephone number, father/guardian’s name and photograph, mother’s name and photograph, wife’s name and voter’s ID with photo, the BLO noted.

Further, the voter would also have to provide the details of their name, ID with photo, relative name, relationship, district, State, Assembly Constituency, as per the previous SIR carried out in 2005, he stated.

Clarifying that it was not mandatory to provide details of previous SIR, the BLO noted providing it would make the job easier for them.

“The same set of details of the relatives attached in the voter IDs as per the previous SIR should also be filled in the form,” he said.

If a voter was unavailable at the time of their visit, the BLO said they would provide enough information to their neighbours along with BLOs’ contact number to reach them easily on their return.

“For those who are not familiar with the information required for the SIR form, they would be given time to gather the details, and they could hand it over during the next visit of their BLOs,” the BLO elaborated.

In case the voter has changed their address to a different location, they would have to fill in a shifter form along with form 8 to get their name removed from the previous location and get it added to the new location, he stated.

“The electors must fill in the details in two forms. One form attested by the BLO would be handed over back to the elector and the other one will be taken by the BLO for further perusal,” he noted.

For further queries and clarifications, the electors could contact their respective constituency election officers.
